I have applied for a vote on 10th april 2009.
When I enquired at Saidapet Zone IX office over phone, they told that the new voterlist and id cards will be issued after the elections. As a new applicant Iam not eligible to vote this time.
Please let me know the information I got is true?
If so then the focus is on next elction, why the EC have given the dead line to apply for the vote a sApril 13th . It can be any date.

Clarifications on the comments posted above:
1. To Vote on 13th May – you need to have your name on the VOTER LIST. If your name is not there in the list – you will not be allowed to vote.
2. If you don’t have the voter ID card but your name is on the VOTER LIST, you CAN VOTE. Ensure you carry other ID cards (esp. photo ID Cards) to help identify you at the Polling Booth.
3. How to find name in Voter List?
1st identify your Assembly Constituency.
then search for your street name.
then open the PDF of the VOTER List and scroll to find your name. In English version – you can try searching on your VOTER ID CARD No. or your name – but best option is to scroll and view since spelling mistakes are common.
4. APPLIED AFTER 1st JAN 2009 for inclusion in VOTER LIST?
Go to your CORPORATION ZONAL OFFICE and check in person if your name has been added in the SUPPLIMENTARY ROLLS.
Or on Election Day go to the Polling booth and check if your name is in the Supplimentary list – If not included you will not be allowed to Vote.
The SUPPLIMENTARY VOTER LIST is ready but NOT Published on the Election Commission website, so there is no way of checking online.
We are 5 in our family and we have applied for the voter id in tambaram. The names have been included in the voterlist but we are unable to get our voter id. Please clarify when will we get that id.

I and my wife living in 12th cross street Indira Nagar,Adyar, South Chennai Constituency, ward -151 ( Hindu School)hold Election ID cards which were issued couple of years back. This time we were surprised to see out name missing from the voters list. We approached the LB road office and we were told that old election cards are no longer valid since our name has been struck off from the voters list by Election Office. We filled the new forms and submitted the same well before the cut-off date.
We have neither got any communication what so ever on the names being added in voters list. We still don’t see the names added to the list. Neither have the new Voter ID cards have come so far with just 1 day to go for election. IT’s indeed sad that we won’t be able to cast our vote.
WHY?
Because the process followed by election commission is weak and is highly person dependent and lacks required checks and balances.
We were told that Election office conducts door to door verification and if they don’t get the voters name verified, they strike off the name from the list. In our case no one ever came for verification.
Nor did we receive any communication/letter from Election office giving us intimation that they were not able to locate us and we should get in touch with them on receipt of their letter. Voter ID card is infact a proof of identity which is sought by various govt offices. How can such an important identity be deleted ? Whose responsibility is to ensure that the verifying agent/agency have done their work accurately.
Is this not a stand practice in all govt. offices/ courts/banks/private enterprise ??
This raises questions on the very process followed for deletion of names. It clearly has large holes and no wonder every time, in each state, the genuine voters names are deleted and bogus voters are added in large numbers. This clearly reflects a planned and crafted manipulation practice in place.
What has election commission done so far?
Probably something. However this has not affective to stop this malpractice.
WHAT IS REQUIRED TO BE DONE ?
Election Commission needs to do following things :
1. REMOVE HUMAN ERROR – Validate the information with proof of resident documents provided by voter match with their records. chances are the data entry could have caused any error, prinout may not have been legible or the verification person missed it out / marked it incorrectly – possibly by mistake.
2. TEMPORARILY DISABLE THE RECORD & SEND INTIMATION TO VOTER ABOUT VERIFICATION FAILURE AND THEIR NEED TO PHYSICALLY COME TO ELECTION OFFICE FOR VERIFICATION
3. If no response is received from the voter, his name should be kept in disabled list.
4. When voter approaches the election office again, then a reactivation process after necessary verification should be initiated.
This will ensure that :
1. the Genuine record will remain in the system
2. cost of rework for election commission will come down – leaving resources for other reforms
3. The Voter will get better service
4. The Election Commissions aim of having free, fair and peaceful election will be met with higher turnout.
I hope Election Commission will take note of this and correct the deficiency in the system.

I have been staying in Adambakkam for past 25 years in my own housw. I have received voter Id card and had even casted my votes earlier too. But in the last election, my name, my wife, son and daughter’s name had not been highlighted in the voter list. I had even submitted my complaint through a national daily and they had also published a list of voters who had not been able to get through the voter list. This problem continues till now. I find my name along with my entire family missing in the voters list. Can you kindly help us?

i am from sriperambathur constituency. i am staying in pallavan nagar thiruverkadu for past 12 year i have casted my vote for past three election MP/MLA/LOCAL body with the help of voters id but this when i searched for my name to my surprised only my mother name was there and other all our name wasnt there in the list. even though i have my voter id i cant cast my vote today. i was upset, according to democractic rule everyone should vote only if your name is there in the list. so waste of having a voter id it is just a id proof for any government authority to be a citizen in india but we cant vote nice democractic country
