  • The important issues facing the constituency are:
    1. Flood Management – Ensuring that the Virugambakkam Canal is cleaned up to prevent flooding in areas like MMDA Colony & Choolaimedu
    2. MRTS/Metro/Mono Rail project on the Arcot Road & Poonamallai High Road – This will help reduce the traffic blockages on the Main Arterial Roads Connecting Areas like Porur/Poonamallai & Beyond with the City.

  • Railways – Nungambakkam Railway Station
    1. Additional Footover Bridge at the South Side – The present single footover bridge near the N.M. Road subway is inadequate to handle the crowd.
    2. Connect the Platforms 3&4 to the Platforms 1&2 by a Footover bridge
    3. Fast trains to stop at Nungambakkam esp. around 0915Hrs when the ladies special slow train is run.

Inefficient use of civic funds & indifference to safety issues
    E.g.: Roads
    - no usable footpaths for pedestrians,
    - safety has been ignored where roads have been dug up for civic works – there are no caution signs to warn road users during the day or at night of trenches dug along the road
    - construction material and rubble are dumped on the road – there are no caution signs to warn road users
    - roads relaid two months ago after they were damaged during the monsoons have been dug up once again for civic works
    - road medians took months to construct – the construction material was left lying in the center of the road posing a hazard to road users
    - construction material and rubble for private construction sites are stored on the public road – there are no caution signs to warn road users
    - poor traffic patrolling – people drive on the wrong side of the road with impunity
